“My Mom Flies” Biography/Experiences Outline/Guide
The Biography / Experiences part of the book will not look like an official military bio but more of a personal account of your life leading up to military and following through on what you are doing now. Please use this bio outline as you put together your information and customize as necessary. Pease let me know if you have any questions or want to talk by phone or email as you are putting together your information. I would like the following to assist me in developing your page in the book
1. Official bio
2. Your story in your own words
3. Personal and professional photos
Details are below:
o Your official biography and/or resume (if you have one).
o Pictures - Start thinking about photos that you think would be good for the book. You can provide hardcopy or electronic copies. If they are electronic, you can send them to me via email or via a CD ROM. I will return any hardcopies to you within 2 weeks after I receive them. Photos that you may want to include: childhood photos, college, flight school, fleet squadron photos, current family photos. My concept right now is to have a collage of pictures of your military and/or civilian career and family. In the center of the picture page will be a current picture of you and your family.
** Pictures are not required in your initial draft input to me. I will be looking for pictures within next six months.
o Your bio/experiences/story in your own words (if you don’t have time to write your bio or don’t like to write, etc.. we can get together in person or via the phone to gather this information). I want as much of your personality as possible to go into your story and I think we can get that from you writing down some of your bio/experiences.
o Keep following questions/ideas/info in mind as you write/provide your bio/experiences:
- Place/date of birth, childhood info, (# siblings)
- Inspiration experiences as a child that led to who you are now and also any aviation experiences, training, etc…
- When did you first start thinking about flying; who inspired, motivated, and encouraged you?
- College experiences…
- Path to entrance into the military (e.g. ROTC, Military, Academy, Officer Candidate School, etc.). Are you prior enlisted? If so, brief bio of that.
- Experiences in flight school and then in the military or other organizations as an aviator.
- Friendships that you made. E.g. aviation camaraderie
- Highlight of your military/civilian career
- What you have learned as a military officer/aviator (and/or civilian pilot if you have gone that route) that has benefited you most in life.
- Are you married? How did you meet your husband?
- How many children do you have? What are their dreams for the future? What do you want to pass down as a legacy to your child/children? (This can be general in nature or aviation specific)
- Your hopes/dreams for you child/children
- What you are doing now?
- Any advice that you would like to pass along to other moms in the military or women considering or planning on joining the military.
- Advice to young people pursuing and achieving their dreams.
- Anything else you would like to include.
o Please keep in mind that you can tailor the information above necessary…bottom line, include what you want.
